- Under 19 years old
- Over 19 years and within the first year of their apprenticeship.
Apprentices who are over 19 and have completed the first year of their apprenticeship are entitled to the minimum wage.

- A written agreement between the employer, the apprentice, and the apprenticeship training provider.
- Evidence that government funding as been received for the apprenticeship - England and Wales only. This can be either a declaration that you will receive apprenticeship incentive payment, or an employer payment schedule to the provider.
What Counts As A Written Agreement?
The agreement must contain...
- The apprenticeship standard which the apprentice is undertaking.
- The start and expected end date of the apprenticeship.
If the training provider has not signed the written agreement, then they will need to provide a document stating the following;
- That they are a recognised training provider.
- What training the apprentice will be undertaking.
- What training, if any, has already been completed by the apprentice.

Category | Apprentice Conditions |
---|---|
H | Apprentice standard rate contributions, if your apprentice is under 25 and in an approved apprenticeship standard or framework |
G | If your apprentice is a foreign-going mariner and is under 25 |
