What is the Bridging Programme?
The Bridging Programme is designed to provide experienced health and social care workers with the additional academic study skills to enable them to progress into Higher Education.
Who Is The Bridging Programme For?
The Bridging Programme has been designed for learners who have attained a Level 3 vocational qualification or above and who wish to progress onto a professional education programme such as occupational therapy or nursing for example using a combination of their vocational qualification(s) and the Bridging Programme.
What Do Learners Achieve?
The Level 3 Certificate in Bridging Skills for Higher Education via the Awarding body OCN.
Course Content
The Bridging Programme lasts for a duration of eight weeks, during which learners work towards obtaining the Level 3 Certificate in Bridging Skills for Higher Education.
The programme includes six remote teaching sessions, and an additional two weeks of personalised support are available if necessary to meet assignment requirements.
To make progress on the programme, learners must demonstrate dedication by engaging in self-directed study between teaching sessions.
The Level 3 Certificate in Bridging Skills for Higher Education, which is accredited by the awarding body OCN, consists of five mandatory units. To attain the Certificate, learners must successfully complete these units and earn a total of 16 credits at Level 3 and 8 UCAS points.

- Essential Skills for Academic Study
- Finding and Reading Information Skills for Academic Study
- Understanding Opportunities in Higher Education
The Bridging Programme Also Enables Learners To Develop:
- Critical thinking skills, addressing the known barriers to critical thinking
- An understanding of personalised learning and the benefits of finding out and exploiting ways of learning which work most effectively for each individual learner.
- An ability to reflect on progress towards short and long term learning goals, to identify obstacles to achievement and how to address them.
